Domoušice - Chateau
The village of Domoušice is located approximately 45 minutes west of Prague in a touristically attractive area. Around 1712, a Baroque chateau with a spacious courtyard, barns, gardens, and other buildings was constructed on the site of the original reeve’s farmstead. The chateau served primarily administrative and aristocratic purposes and cemented the estate’s importance in the region. The estate was originally owned by the chapter administrators of St. Vitus and passed through the hands of a number of owners over the centuries, including the Kneisl family, Wenzel Johann Paul, Baron Jakub Wimmer, and Prince Josef Schwarzenberg, whose stewardship was linked to the surrounding forests and agricultural estates. After the establishment of Czechoslovakia in 1918, the estate came under the administration of the State Forest Service, and the castle was used partly as offices for forest officials, with the barns serving a local cooperative and the main wing converted into apartments.
After the Velvet Revolution in 1989, the castle was gradually privatized, and in 2002 it was purchased by the Dunn-Astley-Corbett family, who are working to restore it to its original form.
The castle is a single-story Baroque building with a characteristic courtyard and adjacent farm buildings. The current restoration includes both the interiors and exteriors, with the aim of preserving the building’s historical character and significance in the region.
