Tmaň - Chateau
Not far from Beroun lies the village of Tmaň, consisting of two settlements, with the castle forming the natural centre of the older northern settlement. This was preceded by a Gothic fortress, documented as early as the 14th century. The oldest known owner was Lord Albert, after which the owners changed frequently. Worth mentioning is Vilém Jaroslav Greifenfels of Pilsenburk, who in the second half of the 17th century rebuilt the old fortress into a four-winged castle, a trapezoidal structure with a Renaissance-style façade and a Marian chapel. After that, the Tmaň Castle underwent only minor changes. Under Count Bedřich Des Fours, a Baroque mansard roof was added and the southern façade was complemented by a two-storey prismatic tower with a dome. Later, the castle also included a farmyard and a park with numerous gazebos and water reservoirs. Between 1862 and 1945, the Noltsch family managed Tmaň, and after World War II, the castle was nationalised and administered by, among others, the Memorial of National Literature. In the early 1990s, the state offered the castle for sale, and today the complex is owned by Zámek Tmaň s. r. o., which has converted it into a retirement home.
