Terezínov - Chateau
On the eastern edge of the South Bohemian village of Albeř near Nová Bystřice stands the Empire-style Terezínov Manor, No. 81. This two-story building with a mansard roof and a bell tower features a seven-axis façade with a shallow risalit and a tympanum. The interior mostly features flat ceilings, with the exception of the northwest room, which has a barrel vault. The entrance is highlighted by a granite surround with a pointed arch. The mansion was designated a cultural monument in the 1960s.
The history of the castle is linked to the Nová Bystřice estate. It was built between 1810 and 1815 on the initiative of the widowed Countess Marie Terezie Trautmannsdorf, in whose honor the entire complex was named Terezínov (Theresienthal). The construction was carried out by the builder František Schneider. The construction was likely connected to the countess’s business venture; in 1811, she founded an ironworks and a hammer mill near the Osika Pond. After 1816, the estate frequently changed owners, and the chateau served as the administrative building for the ironworks. In 1909, Terezínov was sold to the Jewish Kern family from Vienna. Following the Munich Agreement and the annexation of the Nová Bystřice region by the German Reich, the estate was acquired by the Hungarian lawyer Béla Wodianer de Maglod. With the advent of the communist regime, the castle was nationalized. It was successively occupied by the Timber Works, State Farms, and Kablo Kladno. During the socialist era, the building rapidly fell into disrepair and became a ruin by the 1980s.
After 1989, Miloš Holub took on the task of saving the building and worked to restore its former beauty. He began a systematic restoration, which was delayed due to a lack of funds. A major turning point came in 2007, when structural reinforcement was gradually carried out, the roof with the bell tower was restored, and the brick vaults on the ground floor were rebuilt. The renovation of the facade, doors, and new wooden casement windows was completed between 2021 and 2023 with the aim of using the renovated spaces for cultural and social events, a museum, or a gallery.
